Synopsis

‘Dear Dom’ is a documentary about Malta ex-prime minister, Dom Mintoff. Controversial, authoritarian and tireless negotiator, he championed the working class. He shaped the country and influenced its people throughout his fifty years of political career, becoming synonymous with the Mediterranean island. Maverick in his ways, he befriended Libya’s Gaddafi, North Korea’s Kim Il-Sung and China’s Mao. Till today he still stirs intense emotions in people; they either love him or loathe him. The film features never seen before archive footage of the man himself. People affected by his actions speak out for the first time in original interviews. Did he divide a nation in his quest to conquer it? Mintoff fought for change but then fought against it. However, no matter what, in the end, the power of the people always wins.
